“I am especially interested in the areas of energy, hormonal balance, digestive and thyroid health, sleep and stress management. I am a qualified Pharmacist and have been working in community pharmacy for the past 12 years. I also have an honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. In my over 10 years working as a Pharmacist I have witnessed first-hand the negative impact that poor nutrition and lifestyle choices can have on both a person’s physical and mental health and how they can influence outcomes in the progression of chronic diseases including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and many autoimmune conditions.
My interest and passion in nutrition goes way back to my school-going days where Home Economics was my favourite subject and, although I went on to study Science and subsequently Pharmacy, that interest never waned over time. After returning from a couple of months travelling in 2016 I began researching nutrition courses in Ireland and came across the Institute of Health Sciences Diploma in Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching and I haven’t looked back since. I qualified in May 2017 but my full time job as a Pharmacist made it difficult for me to set up my own practice so I have since reduced to part time. Last year I also experienced my own health scare which resulted in me switching my focus to my own health and wellness. I am back to full health now and am excited to get out there and work with clients.
Burnout is very common amongst healthcare workers as we tend to put a lot of energy into looking after others often at the expense of our own health and wellbeing. I think given the current circumstances and everything that Covid-19 has brought with it in the past few months it will be even more prevalent. The phrase “you can’t pour from an empty cup” comes to mind and never has it been more important to look after our health. I am lucky I can combine both my scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge with Nutrition & Lifestyle Coaching – as well as my own personal health experiences – to offer clients a holistic approach to health and wellness. I have undertaken further training with IHS in Plant-Based Nutrition to support clients wishing to transition to a more plant-based diet and more recently I have started to study Personalised Sports Nutrition to expand my skillset and help more clients. The area of nutrition is constantly evolving and changing with new information emerging all the time so it is essential to stay abreast of any new evidence.
