as Dr Fionnula McHale over the last few years we are incredibly excited to bring even more expertise to this innovative and cutting edge programme. It will now be called the ‘Certificate in Personalised Sports Nutrition’ and will have the brilliant Joanne Gribbin and Carla Bredin at the helm. We are delighted to have two such experienced Nutritional Therapists and Sports Nutrition enthusiasts working together to deliver this CPD course and support students through their studies. They each have a wealth of personal and professional experience to bring to the table, both being incredibly active themselves and specialising in performance nutrition in their clinics. Students could not be in better hands.
Who is Joanne Gribbin?
Joanne is a qualified Nutritional Therapist from Navan, Co. Meath. In additional to working with the Institute of Health Sciences, Joanne also has a busy Nutritional Therapy practice where she assists people with an array of health concerns. Joanne has a particular interest in personalised sports nutrition, seeing clients on a one to one basis to improve their strength and stamina and help them to achieve their personal performance goals by ensuring underlying optimum health – the key to a personalised sports nutrition approach. She also works together with her local gym on a very successful weight loss programme combining exercise and balanced nutrition. Joanne gives regular talks to GAA clubs around Meath ranging from Under 16s to Senior level, including the Meath Senior Ladies GAA team. On a personal level, Joanne likes to mix-up her own exercise routine varying cardio workouts and resistance-style training, with yoga, all supported by a nutrient dense diet and supplement plan. Joanne is continually expanding her knowledge in the field of Functional Sports Nutrition by attending CPD programmes, researching in the area and reading extensively.
Who is Carla Bredin?
Carla is a qualified nutritionist, and owner of Wild Healthy Nutrition in Blackrock, Co Dublin. She is reading for an MSc in Nutritional Medicine at the University of Surrey, with research focused on cardio-metabolic disorders, particularly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Carla is a certified bronze-level Schwinn indoor cycling instructor, and teaches 4 classes a week in Cycle Studio Stillorgan. She originally came to indoor cycling as cross-training for endurance running. She is an avid half-marathoner as well as having completed the Dublin Marathon and, most recently, the 2016 New York City Marathon. She holds clinics on Nutrition for Exercise, particularly for amateur endurance athletes such as runners, cyclists, and triathletes, on how to optimise nutrition for performance and recovery. In her Nutrition for Weight Loss clinics, she utilises sports nutrition principles alongside her clients’ exercise strategies received from their personal trainers, to find the best nutrition strategy for optimising body composition changes. She has worked with IHS as a personal tutor since 2016.
